Chocolate Granola

Something a little different this time. Breakfast time. Homemade granola, tasty and healthy at the same time. And most importantly – you control what you put in it.

Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day and for good reason. Those who eat it think more clearly, have increased energy and experience happier, more balanced moods compared to those who skip it. Cereal grains provide valuable whole-grain carbohydrates and nutrients - a healthy way to start your day off right!
Unfortunately, the breakfast cereals you can buy at most supermarkets often contain large quantities of sugar and it can be hard to identify healthy varieties due to confusing labeling. Even cereals which may be thought of as 'healthy' (muesli for example) are also high in sugar most of the time, even if they are marketed as low-fat, the sugar is the tricky part. This is a shame, because cereal can be a quick and nutritious breakfast, but the many unhealthy cereals on the market can make it hard to know which to choose. Some cereals are made of as much as 40 percent sugar. The healthiest option is cereals that contain 6 grams of sugar or less per serving, but those are very hard to find in a regular supermarket.
The best solution is to make your own cereals, mixing the ingredients of your choice and controlling the amount of sugar you put in it!

U need (for 2 large jars)
4 cups of oats
100 grams of hazelnuts, crushed
100 grams of sunflower seeds
75 grams of dried cranberries
100 grams of raisins
15 dried apricots, chopped into small pieces
1 chocolate bar, dark
the juice of two oranges
200 grams of liquid honey

How to make it

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Line a baking tray with a sheet of baking paper.
Mix the oats with the nuts and the seeds in a large bowl.
Mix the honey with the orange juice in a pan and heat it up slowly, until you obtain a uniform liquid.
Pour the liquid onto the oats with the nuts and seeds and mix it all around until everything is covered.
Spread everything onto the baking tray.
Bake for about 30 minutes. Make sure to mix it around every 5-10 minutes, so that it doesn’t burn!
In the meantime, chop up the chocolate.
Take the tray out of the oven and stir in the dried fruit (cranberries, raisins, apricots). Then stir in the chocolate, which should melt all over the still warm mixture.
Best with cold milk!
